Paying for college is expensive, and there may be an organization out there looking for a student just like you to award money to. Whether the amount of a scholarship is large or small, every little bit helps when you are paying for a college education or living expenses while you are studying hard to prepare yourself or the future.

As I come across information about scholarships, I will post them here.  Check back frequently so that you don't miss out.

Texas State Scholarship
Mr. Peterson has access to a $10,000 scholarship for a senior female student who would want to attend Texas State University next fall and major in engineering.  If you meet the requirements and are interested, let me know so that I can get you the rest of the information.

College Board Scholarship Search
It might seem obvious, but don't forget about the College Board's (SAT people) scholarship search web site.  You fill out information about yourself and your interests, and they can search and match you up with what they claim to be $6 Billion in scholarships from 2200 different companies and organizations.

Engineer Girl Essay Contest (Deadline: March 1, 2013)
Engineer Girl is a web site from the National Academy of Engineers (NAE).  The primary goal is to improve the number of high school girls seeking a career in engineering, but they provide lots of good information and opportunities for all young persons about careers in engineering.  They are sponsoring an essay contest and awarding a cash prize.  It's not a scholarship per se, but $500 cash would work just the same.  The essay should describe how engineering has improved the treatment or prevention of heart disease, stroke, influenza, or emphasema.  The web site even lists the rubric that will be used to score your entry and a link for you to submit your entry.

SPARK at Texas State (Deadline: March 13, 2013)
Texas State University and the National Science Foundation are teaming up to offer $10,000/year for three years to engineering students.  The application can be found on the Texas State College of Science & Engineering web site.  Interestingly, the aim of the grant funding this scholarship is to increase the number of girls that choose and graduate with engineering as a major, but they will consider male applicants equally.  It appears that this program will be renewed for those of you who are not yet seniors.

MSOE Scholarship (Deadline: Ongoing)
The Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) is the Wisconsin affiliate for Project Lead the Way.  They are offering $500 for up to four PLTW courses successfully completed PLUS $2500 renewable scholarship for earning a grade of B in at least one PLTW course PLUS an average of $18,000 in annual grants and scholarships. It is a long distance from Round Rock, but some of you may be enticed by the financial benefits that they can offer you.  Since this is part of their ongoing relationship with Project Lead the Way (PLTW), these programs renew every year.  If you are interested, fill out their form to get more information.

AES Scholarship (Deadline: 10/4/2013)
AES Engineering Services gives a $500 scholarship that is open to any high school senior or college graduate.  You don't even have to fill out an application; just write a short 1000 word (max) essay describing your future plans and what you think success would look like as you look back on your career.

There are 2 scholarships related to the upcoming veterans' day.  The Anson Jones Chapter of the National Sojourners will be awarding $2000, $1000, and $500 savings bonds.  Deadline for essay submission is December 15, 2012.  The other will be from the Retired Chief's Society. The Austin Retired Chiefs Society will be awarding $500, $200, and $100 savings bonds.  Deadline for essay submission is October 12, 2012.
